Making Space – Week 8: Turn it off!

Welcome to Week 8!   8 weeks is a long time and I hope you are seeing the benefits of paying attention to your habits and trying on new things!

Below is my recap of Week 7 – it was an ok week. I was in Tokyo and although I did well sticking with Whole30, I am just not as consistent with my routines when I travel – something to notice.  One thing I did not do on my trip was do my self-talk work and I really felt the impact.   Listening to and saying affirming words to myself on a consistent basis really helps keep my mind focused on the right thoughts.  When I don’t do this, I fall back into my old thoughts and they are not the programs I want to run my life!  If you are not familiar with self-talk work, google Dr. Shad Helmstetter and read about it.  It makes so much sense to me!

It’s week 8!   I love watching TV in bed.  It is relaxing and its my way to check out at the end of the day.  I know there is a lot of research out there about sleep after screen time and I have tended to ignore it (the charming 5 year old with the “I don’t want to” chant comes to mind).  It is especially bad when a show like House of Cards makes me wait MONTHS for the next season and then the entire season is available on Netflix.  Well, its back and I am admittedly binge watching.   Last night we watched two episodes and it was lights out at 10:00p (way past my bed time). Not to mention that I laid in bed and thought about it for an hour so really didn’t get to sleep until closer to 11:00p – ugh!

This morning I declared to Mike that there would be no more TV in bed Sunday thru Thursdays!  He “loves” my declarations and just laughs.  He will of course support this and throws a little tough love my way.  “If I don’t want to watch TV, then don’t ask”.  If I ask, he will always say yes because he loves it too.   So, I am declaring to you, the Paper Doll Community, that I will not watch TV in bed through Monday thru Thursday this week!

Do you watch TV in bed?

P.S. Many of you may be thinking, take the TV out of your bedroom.  That is sensible and I am not there yet!

xo,

Julie
